Hello former shipmates of the USS Alexander Hamilton, SSBN 617 - or sometimes affectionately known as the A. FROG! I was a Missile Technician on the Gold Crew from 1979 to 1984. If I only knew just how fast the years would blaze by after what seemed like patrols that would never end. I feel fortunate to have survived those days - not so much the patrols, but those very intoxicating off crews! I am thankful that many of us have remained in touch over the years, but wanted to do my part in helping others reunite. After all we are not getting any younger.

We are blessed to live at a time whereby technology has afforded us the opportunity to relive memories such as this. Think about it. You can dig out your old photos you took on the boat, scan them, upload them, and bring back a ton of memories for lots of shipmates here. I bet most of the photos people see here will be the first time they ever laid eyes on them. Even if they were in the photos. We could not have dreamed of an online society in the days we were on the boat (most of us anyway!).

There are a few websites with information on our submarine (see links at the bottom of this page). One that deserves headlines though has been around for a while and is worth a visit. Add yourself to the crew while you are there. Here it is:

http://www.ssbn-617.com/crew.htm

I created a group for Missile Technicians, but if you are a different rate - or an officer - and you find yourself reading this feel free to create a group for your rate (use the "Add a Group" option on the left side of this page). I started to make icons and groups for all of the rates on our submarine, but by default it makes me a member of any group I create. Not that I am too proud to be listed in groups of other ratings, but it would be kind of silly for me to show up under every rate or group. Just do a google search on the rating badge insignia for your rate and seek out images. Once you find one just save it to your computer and then you can add it when you create a new group. If you cannot find one or have trouble saving, cropping, etc. just shoot me a message and I will get it and e-mail it back to you.

Feel free to invite other shipmates that you may know. Make sure you share a sea story or three by using the Forum tool on the left side of this page. Also feel free to add photos - past and present. Many of you have photos from the boat that we would love to see, so break out those scanners and start scanning those photos. You can always have a photographic service scan them for you. I have added a lot of photos from the boat that I have scanned and uploaded here. I gave descriptions to each photo (mainly to name the people in them), but my memory is like a steel sieve and I have forgotten some of the names. Feel free to help me out in that endeavor by letting me know the names that I have forgotten . To see the slide show of pictures from the boat just click on my profile page (Stan Tribble) and the slide show will play automatically. Position your mouse over the bottom of the picture and you will find an option to view the slide show in FULL SCREEN which is much better. (videos can be viewed in full screen the same way).

Make sure you play the alarms in the music player on the left side of this page.

Reunion information is provided by shipmate Frank Bonafede. Make sure you click on his profile to get information for this year's reunion. He has provided the registration form, directions, etc. You can download them here (choose the SAVE option and save them to your computer first):

Directions to Crowne Plaza

By the way - in the photos you see on the sides of this page you will see the Hamilton when it was in drydock during a cold winter in Holy Loch, Scotland. That is former shipmate Bruce Johnsen (MT) standing on the wingwall of the drydock.

Good luck!

Stan Tribble

Captain Robert S. Badgett
Captain R. S. Badgett was our CO somewhere around the late 70's/early 80's timeframe. I did a google search on him and found an interesting story on him.

Tips and Tricks For This Website

A little background on this website. I got the idea from a high school buddy that created one of these networks for our high school. I just used the "Create Your Own Social Network" option and this website was born. It is mostly a pre-canned site, but it serves our purpose beautifully. As I come across tips and tricks I will post them here. If you know of any others send me a message and I will list them here.

1) You can chat with anyone who is online. Just open the chat window at the bottom of the screen. Once the chat window is open make sure you turn the volume on, so you can hear the chime when you get a reply (handy if you are looking at something else at the time). There is a little volume icon in the chat window.

2) Tag your photos! Whenever you add a photo IN ADDITION TO GIVING IT A GOOD DESCRIPTION WITH NAMES make sure you put tags on it. For example - in the TAG box type the last names of each person in the photo. Separate the names with a comma. You can also tag the location such as SONAR. Then people can use the "Search Social Network" box located at the top right of every page and find any photo with a particular tag on it. Try it for yourself. Type the word sonar in the search box and you will see some photos that I have tagged with the word sonar. It is better to embed the description in the edit of the photo rather than relying on a comment to it afterwards. When you upload the photo it will give you a place to give a description. If you miss that step you can always go back and view your photo and select the EDIT photo option. There you will have access to the Description and TAG fields.

3) If you refer to another shipmate who ALSO has a profile on here you can hyperlink their profile page. Step 1 will be to go to that person's profile page and highlight the URL address. Then COPY it by right clicking on the highlighted URL and selecting COPY or just highlight it and then hit CTRL+C. Then - in any text box you are typing in you will see an icon that looks like a link of chain at the top. After typing your comment, etc. you will then highlight the name of the person. While that name is highlighted click on the icon in the top of the text box that looks like a link of chain. A hyperlink box will appear. Then you can simply paste the URL address there - by right clicking and selecting PASTE or by doing CTRL+V. Make sure you don't have two consecutive "http://" though.

4) Slide shows and photos can be viewed in full screen simply by mousing over the image and clicking the FULL SCREEN option that will appear.

5) You can customize your personal pages. You can add apps, you can change color schemes, etc. Don't be afraid to experiment, but take baby steps. The last thing you want to do is make a ton of changes at once and then save it only to find out some of them are not what you wanted. Make a change, save it, and then go back to your profile and see if you like the change.

6) If your profile photo does not appear the way you want it to you may be using an image that was cropped before you uploaded it here. An example would be to crop yourself out of an image where you are with other people in it and then upload that cropped image. Most of the time when you crop an image you change the aspect ratio (length vs. width) and depending on the viewer you use after that it may not display it correctly. Try to use photos that do not require cropping ahead of time.
